CMM510 - Interpersonal and Intergroup Conflict Analysis

Credit Hours: 4

Course Description

This course is designed to introduce students to the basic concepts of conflict and conflict management. It begins with a paradigmatic shift from conflict is negative to conflict happens; it is the way it is managed that determines if it is positive or negative. All conflicts have elements of interpersonal conflict because they involve people and human interactions. This course will describe factors, such as avoidance and escalation, which lead to destructive conflict. It will explain how communication and perceptions may inhibit positive management, and present concepts and models that help students uncover underlying interests, analyze conflict situations, and know when to bring in a neutral third party to resolve the conflict. (This is the first course students in the Graduate Certificate in CM program will take)
