GEC220 - Essential Strategies for Applied Communication

Course Description

GEC 220 examines four major areas of communication (Interpersonal, Group, Public, & Mediated) focusing the application of useful practices in today's society. Students will have the opportunity to engage in the development of communication competencies and learn strategies for enhancing their communication abilities.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

Apply principles in four areas of communication: interpersonal, group, public and mediated (IGPM)
Produce competent communication in multiple contexts (IGPM)
Demonstrate self confidence in communication settings through understanding of the basic components of interpersonal, group, public, and mediated communication (IGPM)
Exhibit the ability to form and adapt messages with verbal and nonverbal fluency in different communication contexts(IGPM)
Create and deliver well-organized messages/presentations appropriate to the audience, purpose, and context with proper source documentation (IGPM)
Demonstrate the ability to accomplish communication goals (directions/bearings, self-efficacy) (IGPM)
Model appropriate listening and responding behaviors (IPGM)
Evaluate communication competency in multiple contexts (IGPM)
