MNE320 - Certified Ethical Hacking

Credit Hours: 4

Course Description

This course immerses the student in an interactive environment where they will learn how to scan, test, hack and secure their own systems. The lab intensive environment gives each student in-depth knowledge and practical experience with the current essential security systems. Students will begin by understanding how perimeter defenses work and then practice scanning and attacking their own networks. Students learn how intruders escalate privileges and what steps can be taken to secure a system. Students will also learn about Intrusion Detection, Policy Creation, Social Engineering, DDoS Attacks, Buffer Overflows and Virus Creation. Upon course completion, students will be prepared to take the EC-Council Certified Ethical Hacker exam.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

Demonstrate an understanding of networking and system technologies as well as communication protocols and backup and archival strategies
Perform data and systems analysis and risk assessment using various assessment methods
Describe various computer related risks and determine what security strategies should be implemented to mitigate those risks
Demonstrate the ability to use various tools, systems, and programs for determining vulnerabilities
Compare and contrast various types of security techniques on different networks
Identify security polices and identify compliance regulations in various industries
Discuss ethical obligations toward hacking and the expectations regarding the code of conduct for security specialists.
