This introductory course explores community theory and family theory to provide a foundation for the practice of community and public health nursing. Community theory is on the idea and theory of association, social capital, and the notion of community in relation to contemporary concerns i.e. globalization, and community development. Family theory explores the family as a unit. Three family theories (Family Developmental Theory, System Theory, and Family Stress and Coping Theory) are utilized in the process of assessment, identifying strengths and needs, and developing a plan of care.
