PLA301 - Prior Learning Assessment

Credit Hours: 4

Course Description

This course is designed to allow students to engage in self-reflection and to learn techniques to identify and document college-level prior learning experiences. Students will define learning and career goals and provide evidence of both applied and theoretical knowledge of college-level content which may be assessed for possible award of credit.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

Articulate your educational and career goals
Discuss the differences between traditional and experiential learning
Identify different methods of assessment of prior learning (transfer credit, credit by examination, training/certification evaluation, portfolio assessment, etc.)

Create a portfolio in which you:

Compose an autobiography
Create a professional resume
Identify and document your college-level learning experiences acquired outside the classroom
Organize the experiences into categories that correspond to college disciplines/courses
Compose an experiential learning essay/narrative
